The Ritual

       This is where I have a clear sense of my memories diverging into very separate realities. In one reality, Alyra runs away from Torel. He spends years tracking her, and she eventually kills herself. In another, before Alyra can kill herself, Erik somehow gets involved, and winds up killing Torel by accident (men...). I'm not certain how this comes to pass, and my only clue is the vision I had of Erik tossing him out the door of what I think is an RV of some sort. Alyra is apparently as ambivalent about Torel's death as she was about his unlife, but this does not win Erik brownie points, for sure. I have yet to see an ending where Ellanna's plot to kill him comes to fruition, so either she has a change of heart, he somehow escapes destruction at her hands, or I have not yet seen the endings attached to that possibility for whatever reason.
       In yet another, she somehow manages to break the blood bonds, humors Torel until she can swing a transfer to another order, and comes to very severely outrank him. The wonderfully fun part for Ellanna, is most definitely watching Alyra bark orders at Torel, and him having to kiss her ass in order to move up the ranks. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling on the inside.
       The last possibility the I see, is that Torel has a sudden revelation, and he and Alyra are reconciled. All realities but this last one, which seems hazy and very ill-defined, seem equally clear.
       Other endings remain to be seen, certainly. One thing is for certain; unless Torel somehow learns to treat Alyra with respect, there will be no happy ending for him.
