I found myself lost in the
woods. In the distance, I saw a run down, old church, surrounded by a moat.
The water struck me as very clean. I decided
to go investigate. I was shocked by the interior: the pews and chairs
were upholstered with brilliant blue velvet, the walls were freshly painted
white. As I walked through the halls, however, I became aware, through
subtle, peripheral glimpses, that beneath the veneer, all was rotted, gray,
and dusty. I could feel death in the air quite clearly. It was ancient
death though, like the energy you feel at historical sites, or a newly
uncovered tomb.
As I walked through the
halls, I came upon a family dwelling in this place. There was a primitive
dining room, and bedrooms, all covered in grave dirt. They invited me to
supper, which consisted of a huge bowl of strawberries, and a plate of
stuffed grape leaves. Again, I began to see through the veneer. The strawberries
were actually very small red fruit that had been dug out of the earth (pomegranates?)
and the stuffed grape leaves contained mud and raw deer meat. I recoiled
in disgust, and went to go sit by myself in the parlor. Under the veneer,
there was a man. He was tall, with black hair and black eyes, and was wearing
iron chairman with black spandex shorts. He explained to me that the family
was his, and I got the sense that they were his, in much the same way that
a dog or cat might be. "Everything they eat must come from the church grounds".
I went out to pick fruit
from the soil, and when I returned, the family was eating mashed potatoes,
but they were really bowls full of corpse flesh.
