Torel

As long as I have been aware of Torel, in most of his permutations, I have felt a striking lack of respect for him. I have applied to him names like "Duh-rel", "Door bell" and "Dorkel". Similar plays on words have been used with his other names. He's a sad example of a psi-vamp, an incompetent magickian, and a chauvinist jerk. Beyond that, I really don't mind him. He's no threat to me, and other than stalking and draining her, is very little threat to Alyra.

Ellanna, on the other hand, has some more significant problems with him. In that lifetime, Torel is a controlling, abusive freak, who's idea of fun is to blood bond his child and drink from her without permission. I know that while she was in the Order, she had a plot worked out to have him destroyed, but I have yet to see the ending of that chapter in Ellanna's life (or unlife, as the case may be). It may well be that this part of that time stream has not yet been decided.

Despite the fact that his treatment of Alyra was so extreme that The Order felt the need to step in, he could not seem to understand why Alyra was uncomfortable with him. His misunderstanding of Alyra was so complete that he once accused her of having an affair with Ellanna, because it seemed as though she would rather spend her time studying than paying attention to him.

That aside, he reminded Ellanna a great deal of her own sire, and so a great deal of animosity was displaced onto him. The difference, however, was that Torel, unlike Juan, was significantly younger than Ellanna, and was no match for her mentally, magickally, or even politically. While Ellanna technically had no rank within the clan, she was well liked, and many of the Elders owed her a favor or two... or three (not that Torel is at all aware of this). It is for these reasons that I foresee Torel's downfall at her hands. However, Alyra might yet talk her out of it.

The most recent discussion has been about Torel's last name. All we know is that it translates to "God's Hammer" in some language that sounds Germanic. The obvious "Thor's Hammer" (Mjollinar) doesn't quite sound right.
